About the event
We often hear the phrase, 'practice makes perfect,' and don't question its legitimacy.
According to yoga shastra, only the 'perfect practice' can lead us to perfection.
So what does perfection In practice imply?
Patanjali, In his Yoga Sūtras, tells us that a perfect practice is a balance of abhyasa and vairagya, what we 'do' in our practice, and the continuous process of relinquishing our attachments to that which is compromising our ability to be free and fulfilled.
In other words, a 'perfect' practice is a practice poised on the delicate precipice of self-effort and trustful surrender. Too much self-effort leads us to become attached to the practice itself, and the fruit it bears. Too much surrender may leave us feeling complacent or depleted. The right balance, which must be continuously refined, has the capacity to take us all the way to the final destination—absolute freedom and everlasting fulfillment.
